Thanks for taking the time to reply David, however I'm afraid I don't
understand what you mean: cat and mouse? rodent?  sorry you lost me! :-s
Do you mean I should not have the pop-up? I'm afraid I can't do that, my
client is adamant she wants a pop-up.

Or do you mean that I should put the text that pops up in a list rather than
a span and have the list pop up? What difference would that make?

I don't care if the popup covers some of the kanji image and the headings on
hover as long as it pops up!  ;-)

The horizontal scroll bar bothers me a bit more and I will have to look into
this.
