A List Apart [1] uses a three-column layout with header and footer, but I don't think it's fluid. There is, however, an article about "creating liquid layouts with negative margins." [2] I'm a huge ALA fan, and always enjoy reading anything they post. Also, you might be interested in glish.com's "CSS layouts: For fun and profit." [3] They have a three-column layout that sounds like what you're going for.
