This element, as you anticipated, uses javascript to replace existing 
buttons with anchors. CSS2.1 has done me great service with buttons, but 
the old Safari doctrine still ignores almost all style information 
except metrics.

The new Safari, I seem to remember, is scheduled for release in spring.
