Depends. On an intranet where I know the bandwidth and the settings of the users workstations, I can gauge how a tile effect will look. On the internet where you will have Macs and PCs, 640x480 through 1280x1024... I tend to go for the (near)lowest common denominator. Your mileage may vary. -- I made magic once.
