Wow, thanks to EVERYONE who responded to this!! I should have given you
more info.....

This is a page for the client's board members/commissioners. There is a
single line above each photo and bio that contains:

LastName, FirstName MiddleInitial PHONE: 999-999-9999 EMAIL:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

While I personally think that tables are ok with the right circumstances, I
don't think this is. Also, the client will be managing all of the content
via Contribute, so I want to keep this as clean and easy as possible.

I had already created a class and used a <span> around the entire line to
make it inline, and another class to make the titles bold. Then, I just
used breaking spaces (a number of them) to provide the right spacing
between the name and phone, and between the phone and email. But as a LONG
time WordPerfect user, I can hardly stand the thought of using multiple
spaces and felt that surely there was a way to handle this with CSS.

Hope this explains things more clearly....

Suzanne

my first question (as usual) is, are you absolutely sure tables aren't
semantically correct? if you're using this as tabular data, tables are
not only okay, they're the best choice.

otherwise, a bit more explanation about what you mean by 'handling' the
text would help. I usually just wear a pair of white kid gloves, but
that might not help you ;)
