Thanks for the response, Philippe; 
In the end I worked around the problem -- seemed a better solution than
hacking the CSS with breakable filters. The css only needed to apply
within a certain div, whilst 'the problem' fell outside that div. So
being more specific with my selectors resolved it.

That said, I will refer to the thread you mentioned, and thanks for
pointing me there.
