This is a simplistic explanation of the cascade [1]. I would not discourage anyone from attempting to learn anything as complex as the "cascade." Knowledge is the key to success. Nevertheless, it is a highly technical subject, the knowledge of which will not necessarily increase your ability to put a decent page on the screen. There are plenty of software engineers around who can recite the cascade inside and and out and yet are incapable of creating a Web page that is any better than one done by a seven year old child.
