This is a first, real post to the list so I hope I've got the posting
conventions right...

I'm writing a web site the first (test) page of which you can see at:

http://www.peredur.uklinux.net/PlaceForWords/

When I try to scale up or down (Ctrl+ or Ctrl-), the header stays the
same size. I've given it an explicit height of 16em and an implicit
width of 100%, and I was expecting it to scale, ems being scalable and
all that. Even with implicit width and height, it doesn't scale.
Scaling up isn't too bad, but on scaling down, the menu and main text
soon finds itself on top of the banner. It scales OK when the browser
window is resized (althought that doesn't alter the font size, of
course). I can live with this as I guess that the ability to scale up
is more important than the ability to scale down, but if anyone knows of
a better way to code it, I'd be very grateful.

I had to give the banner an explicit height, BTW, because without it
there were differences in rendering between FF on Linux and FF on
Windows (the menu was pushed down level with the first paragraph of the
main content - something to do with font scaling between the platforms,
I guess). I got the same problem with IE on Linux vs IE on Windows, as
well. So I thought an explicit height would be safer.

The other problem I have is an IE6 one. In IE6, the left borders of the
list items in the bottom-menu don't appear. Again, I can live with this
if I have to, but if there's a solution I'd be grateful to know what it is.

Thanks in advance

Peter
