Yes.

At this present time, you are trying to throw all these <span>, <div> 
elements into the XHTML and margins in your CSS to try to control 
naturally occurring collapsing margins. You will gain a better 
understanding of CSS by just staring out with simple XHTML. This is why 
I said what do you want to do? We can not possibly help you until we 
know what you want.

If we did it the other way where we tried to style the current XHTML, 
you will just find your head spinning with abstract CSS concepts. Baby 
steps first.
