Yes, this is a difficult problem. But it is not necessarily one that is 
impossible to achieve solely with CSS. Scripting is a valuable tool when 
used with the discretion, the dignity,  and the honor it deserves. And I 
am all for it. But in some instances it remains a logical enhancement of 
but not necessarily a viable replacement for CSS,
