What format is the existing image in the html?

I ask because images can take background, and if the image is a .gif or .png it can be transparent, resizable, and have an easily replaceable background image show up. Perfect for what you're asking for, me thinks - I use the technique a lot. Non-transparent image formats will of course not work.
