After much trying I could finally reproduce it in Chrome dev channel (not in 
Safari). I think it is a side effect of the scaling of the image that happens 
at smaller sizes. Why don't you make it completely transparent ?

I don't see that mismatch on my side, however the image appears to have a sRGB 
profile. Removing it should fix it. In general the image could be better 
optimised (Imageoptim does wonders - it slashed about 30% out of the file size; 
the sRGB colour profile accounts for about 5k)
