Very hard to say without seeing the html page (and associated style sheets of 
course).
Try at the very least to post a minimal page on some public web server.

In the mean time: check that both your html and your css is valid.
Use the webkit inspector to analyse what is happening; add different background 
colours to each individual element to eventually see where the problem happens,
