Nice to see some thoughtful replies. Under the circumstances, I don't want to be the one to push this issue and start a holy war.
I do wonder if CSS itself could at least potentially come to make the pre-processors obsolete. Why can't there be a code for all browsers, to do something like transparency or rounded corners.
