[Design with CSS 2636] printing woes w/apparently valid styles (but no CSS per se)

Hi,

I have validated my display on most modern browsers (Firefox, IE,
Safari, etc) and it works fine.  But printing is another matter
entirely; my columns often are misaligned in both Firefox&IE (haven't
tested others).    Please see this link or look at the source embedded
below, since I'm a first-time poster here.

This link passes the w3 "Jigsaw"  validation service.

I can post a link to a PDF of the offending Firefox 3.5.5 "printed"
output if that would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for your advice as to how to make this relatively
simple goal (positioning and using z-indexes) operate robustly on
different browsers, including their printing engines.
