QUINT REVEALS REDS SNUB
by Patrick Haond
SEDAN midfielder Olivier Quint has revealed that he is
set to snub a late bid to sign him from Liverpool, in
favour of joining French champions-elect Nantes.
Quint has attracted attention from several of the top
French sides after impressive performances for the
one-time surprise league leaders, including Lens,
Nantes, Bordeaux, Monaco and Marseille.
Liverpool had watched the 28-year-old in action at the
end of January, and he says that he had received the
offer, but decided to go to Nantes.
"With Liverpool the offer was really concrete as Pascal
Urano [Sedan club president] and Gerard Houllier where
in negotiations," said Quint.
"The choice between Liverpool and Nantes was not an
easy one, but I am just about to reach an agreement with
Nantes who have
shown that they really want me for several months now.
"My chairman thinks it will be good for Sedan if I was to join
and English side,
but I think I will adapt easier to the way The Canaries play.
"Another important thing is that Nantes are certain to play in
the Champions
League, which is my dream, while Liverpool are not."
Valencia where also interested in Quint, along with the host
of French clubs, but
it was Liverpool's interest that came the closest to upsetting
the move to Nantes.
