Dear Software Professional, The Cape IT Initiative, in association with CT-SPIN, would like to invite members of the Cape technical community (programmers, developers, analysts, architects, IT managers, CIOs, software engineers, tech-thusiasts and educators) to a technical discussion on the future of the Java platform, which will be held in Stellenbosch on Tuesday 7 December 2010 from 18h00 onwards, and will be followed by a wine tasting year-end celebration. TOPIC: Java Platform: What's brewing? Fifteen years since its humble beginnings as a programming tool for small interactive devices, Java has evolved into a high-performance and general-purpose virtual machine, language and library-set used in applications ranging from the desktop to the cloud. So, how will Java progress under the stewardship of Oracle? This technical session focuses on the next steps in Java's evolutionary path by looking at some key aspects of Java 7, 8 and beyond. SPEAKER: Alan Nöthnagel Alan spent 10 years at Sun Microsystems providing architectural and strategic Java Platform consulting as Solutions Architect, and managing the support of the Sun Java Enterprise System for Middle East and Africa. He joined Oracle in June 2010 as a Software Architect for Oracle's Communications, Media, Utilities & Transportation division.
