WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Academic and public library staff and patrons enjoy free access to a variety
of online databases through the TexShare program sponsored by the Texas
State Library and Archives Commission. The Gale Group is one of the world's
preeminent publishers of academic, educational and business research
reference tools in both print and online formats. 

Gale Group databases provided through TexShare include _Contemporary
Authors_, _Contemporary Criticism Select_, _Dictionary 
of Literary Biography_, _Heath Reference Center Academic_, _DISCovering
Science_, _Biography and Genealogy Master Index_, 
_Custom Newspapers_, _What Do I Read Next?_ and the _Texas Almanac_.

This full day workshop is designed for all academic and public library staff
who provide reference services for library users. An overview of the Gale
databases will be provided, as well as specific search tips and strategies
for using the databases. The workshop will also include training tips, and a
number of tip sheets and training documents will be provided for later use.

THIS IS A HANDS-ON WORKSHOP
Since seating is limited at each site, early registration is strongly
encouraged.

During the workshop, participants will learn:

* Search tips and strategies for using the Gale databases provided through
TexShare
*Effective training techniques to use with colleagues and patrons
*To search Gale databases effectively

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Juanell Marks has provided orientation, customer training, and
train-the-trainer sessions; written training materials to support the
classes she has conducted; and represented the Gale Group with product
instruction sessions at state and regional conferences in nine states,
including Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Kansas, Colorado and Missouri. She holds
Master of Library Science and Master of Education degrees, and worked as a
school media specialist for 12 years before becoming a full time trainer.
Over the years Juanell has won numerous speech contests and awards on both
local and district levels. When she is not travelling she lives in Plano
with her husband and enjoys participating in the Plano Talkers Toastmasters.

Due to limited seating, preregistration is encouraged. Registration will be
