Subject: Upcoming Young Adult Workshop Series with Patrick Jones


The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is pleased to announce an
upcoming workshop series by Patrick Jones entitled "Best Practices For
Serving Young Adults In Libraries:  A How To Do It Workshop."

Workshop Description:  What are the best practices for serving young adults
in libraries? Consultant Patrick Jones will lead a workshop reviewing the
best practices for connecting young adults and libraries. After covering the
core values of young adult librarianship, Jones will examine robust models
of services from across the nation. Attendees will share best practices and
stimulate creation of new practices. The afternoon will focus on all aspects
of teen summer reading programs, including managing teen volunteers.

March 22, 2002  Old Quarry Branch, Austin Public Library
March 25, 2002:  George Memorial Library, Fort Bend County Libraries
March 26, 2002:   Central Locations of Dallas Public Library
March 27, 2002: Southwest Regional Branch, Fort Worth Public Library

About the Presenter:  Patrick Jones runs Connectingya.com, a firm dedicated
to consulting training, and coaching powerful youth services including
library campaigns and web projects. He has published numerous books,
including Running a Library Card Campaign Connecting Young Adults and
Libraries: A How to Do It Manual (Neal-Schuman, 2002), Do It Right: Customer
Service for Young Adults in School and Public Libraries (Neal-Schuman,
2001), Connecting Young Adults and Libraries: A Hot To Do It Manual
(Neal-Schuman, 1992.) He was the Youth Services Coordinator for the Houston
Public Library when it planned, developed, and implemented the award-winning
Power Card Challenge program to register every child for a library card, and
the ASPIRE after-school program for at-risk middle school children which was
named as one of the top five programs in the nation serving young adults by
the Young Adult Library Services Association. He has recently completed his
