This is a message from the Cedar Park Public Library. We just had a program yesterday called Jambo! Jambo! An African Safari and it was wonderful! The woman who puts on the program is Elizabeth Kahura and she is a school teacher from Kenya. She did an excellent job of engaging the children while teaching them to count in Swahili, learn basic Swahili greetings, play traditional African instruments, dress in African cloth, and explaining the native wildlife in Africa. She started the program broadly (how big is the African continent, how many countries are on the African continent) and then narrowed it down to Kenya. She chose children to make up an African band and she lead them in African rhythm. She also chose children to come up and role-play and dressed them in traditional African clothing - ie: farmer, warrior, dancer, etc. The kids loved it! The program lasted one hour but the kids all hung around afterwards wanting to talk with her, touch all of her instruments, etc. She was very patient and very gracious. Here is her contact information. Elizabeth Kahura (512) 218-0887 (512) 826-0756 [EMAIL PROTECTED] She charge $125 for the program. Please pass the word around.
