DETAILS
Cy-Fair College is currently seeking applications for founding faculty and
staff who share our commitment to performing and supporting academic
excellence, exceptional service and a dynamic climate for lifelong learning.
Individuals with an interest and/or experience in quality service to
students and the community, a collaborative work environment that will focus
on cross training and shared assignments, interdisciplinary teaching,
learning communities, accountability and effectiveness of student learning,
and the effective use of technology are encouraged to consider joining the
founding staff and faculty of Cy-Fair College. Cy-Fair College, the fifth
comprehensive college in the North Harris Montgomery Community College
District, will open in fall 2003.
NHMCCD, the fourth largest community college district in Texas, serves the
north Houston, Texas region with North Harris, Kingwood, Tomball and
Montgomery colleges.
Cy-Fair College initiated classes at Fairbanks Center, a satellite center
for Cy-Fair College, in May 2002. Fairbanks Center is located at Highway 290
and West Little York, near the Sam Houston Tollway. Fairbanks Center is the
temporary headquarters for Cy-Fair college pending the opening of the main
campus.
NHMCCD libraries provide access to print, electronic, and audiovisual
resources. Currently, an alliance with the Montgomery County Memorial
Library System offers a shared library catalog and reciprocal borrowing of
materials for users of both library systems. TexShare and interlibrary loan
agreements provide additional access to materials throughout Texas and the
nation.
Library services and resources will be available at both the Cy-Fair College
and the Fairbanks Center, with the majority of the print and media resources
residing at Cy-Fair College. Both the Fairbanks Center and Cy-Fair College
are designed with the merging of the traditional services offered by the
college library and academic support functions such as tutoring and web
based research. In addition, the college will enter into an agreement with
Harris County Public Library System to share the Cy-Fair College facility
(Learning Commons) as both an academic library and public library. The staff
will be employees of Cy-Fair College with all staff members serving both the
public and college students. This structure of services will require
professionals and staff to be flexible and willing to work collaboratively
with others.
DETAILS
Position Description:
· Primary responsibility is to provide leadership for a joint venture
library characterized by excellence in services, collections, access,
distribution, environment, and facilities for both the community and college
library patrons, including adults and children
· Identify library needs in the community; plan and provide services and
programs to meet those community needs
· Collaborate with the Director of Instructional Support to ensure access to
tutors' information resources in a variety of formats to support student
learning
· Develop and support a collaborative climate that will empower library
staff to integrate with the Learning Commons instructional support staff
· Coordinate staffing schedules during the day, evenings, and weekends to
meet student, faculty, and Harris County public community research needs
· Serve on College, NHMCCD, and Harris County Public Library committees, as
required
· Provide a leadership role in the coordination of programs and policies
with both Harris County branches and NHMCCD libraries
· Attend NHMCCD and Harris County Public Library professional development
programs
· Lead in the development of the library's annual budget in collaboration
with Harris County Public Library and Cy-Fair College administrations
· Manage and maintain the budget activities
· Remain current in all aspects of library resources and services
appropriate to the community, college, and public library
· Interpret policies and procedures for the Learning Commons users
· Assist in the development of plans, policies, and programs to assure
effective service and smooth flow of Learning Commons operations
· Serve as a community resource person and represent the College to outside
groups, when requested
· Submit timely required college and Harris County Public Library reports
and forms
· Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the
community
Qualifications:
Required:
· Master's degree in Library Science (ALA accredited institution preferred)
· Five years' public library experience in branch management
· Demonstrated ability to manage and lead change
· Library experience in the areas of supervision, reference, collection
development, and community relations
· Demonstrated commitment to personal professional development
. Experience in on-line database and Internet issues, personal computer
applications; experience with at least one automated library system
· Ability to work independently and in a team setting
· Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional customer service, and to
providing a dynamic climate for lifelong learning
. Demonstrated ability to provide dynamic and proactive leadership
. Proven effectiveness in allocating and managing resources
. Demonstrated ability and commitment to work collaboratively
. Demonstrated commitment to multi-cultural and multi-generational diversity
. Demonstrated high-level communication and computer skills
. Demonstrated commitment to quality services
Preferred:
· Community college experience
· Experience in other areas of education, industry, or library partnerships
. Familiarity with the technical and legal issues surrounding the delivery
of digital information in a networked environment
· Bi-lingual
