Here's a tip for those of you helping patrons do genealogy searches; it's
from the Genealib list.

 

Put the surname and state in the Google search box. Be sure to put 2-word
states ("North Carolina") in quotation marks. Adding a county will help
narrow the search.

I have also had a lot of luck finding records lately by googling the surname
and the word genweb. Many thousands of genweb volunteers all
over the country and the world voluntarily put cemetery surveys, vital
records, church records, census records, etc. online, and these are
easy to cut and paste into the notes section of Family Tree Maker or other
word processing software.
