SLM I: BASIC MANAGEMENT

The first in the series of 5 workshops that comprise the Small Library
Management Training Program, this basic management workshop will provide a
foundation in management styles, policy and procedure creation, human
resources issues and other library management fundamentals. 

After attending this workshop, participants will:
*Become aware of the primary responsibilities of a library manager
*Learn about management styles and determine their own style
*Know the difference between policy and procedure creation and understand
the importance of having approved policies in place.
*Develop a greater understanding of key aspects of human resources issues
within a library such as hiring, retaining, firing and performance
evaluation of employees and volunteers.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Julie B. Todaro, Ph.D. has been a library and information science
professional for over thirty years as a public and academic librarian and a
library educator. Her areas of expertise include management of non-profits
in the areas of organizational design and effectiveness; assessment and
measurement; community partnerships; strategic planning; communication;
continuous learning including both professional development and training;
customer service; leadership; and, 21st century human resources issues
including dealing with 21st century change. She is an expert facilitator and
public speaker. Her professional career includes consulting, academic
library management and education of college programs and services, library
school graduate and doctoral level education, and public librarianship.
