Another *interesting* aspect of this is the parents' disciplining of
children. Any "untoward" touching of a child by the parents (real,
imagined; attention-getting or worse) reported by the child can get the
parents into some trouble with the "authorities" (read: em-/sympathetic
(with the youngsters)). Now, this is NOT a suggestion that all reports are
unfounded. Yet, I've seen concerned parents concerned about being able to
correct five-year-olds' behaviour. The parents are faced with intervention
by the "law" on various levels.
Again, it's a case of teaching/learning that the government is supposed to
take care of all ills and woes. Unfortunately, when the government gets
involved, the *helped* people may lose some initiative to do for
themselves. Again, there are cases when its needed -- government
intervention; yet, these should be rare and the exception for exceptional
cases.
