Sorry for the spelling error: It is Barry Fell. He is or was a courageous
gentleman.
(Apparently, his career suffered because of his willingness to champion
the diffusionist theory.)  In AMERICA BC, he argues that Native American
languages show Near Eastern-Semitic influence.  As I remember it, the book
is a treasure--chock full of interesting photos of ancient
American archaeological sites. And it features charts showing how the
words of Semitic languages have found their way into the languages of
the indigenous people of the Americas...
