JESSE VENTURA CUTTING PUBLIC RADIO FUNDS
Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura on Thursday proposed eliminating state
funding of Minnesota Public Radio, arguably the nation's most successful
public radio enterprise, and phasing out funds for public television
over a four-year period as well. Ventura observed that he had once
earned his living as a radio talk-show host on commercial stations and
that public radio stations often boast better facilities than the
stations where he worked. Minnesota Public Radio is the home of Garrison
Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion. It claims that only 2 percent of its
funding comes from the state.
