I perhaps should have been more clear in my statement...no breeding
female of ANY species should be exposed to pennyroyal if there is a
chance she is pregnant, as the abortificant properties apply to all
species.

As for fleas, diatomaceous earth works, too...just sprinkle the
garden-grade variety on the animal (make sure it's garden-grade, which is
ground fine enough as to not harm the animal if it licks it off)...

This stuff works for garden slugs, too...it's basically like little
knives slicing into the bugs' bodies, so they go elsewhere...

This could also be the reason you didn't have fleas where you lived...
if the soil was comprised of enough silica, it would have been mighty
uncomfortable to most bugs...

But not, I believe, to roaches...they are so 'armored' that the glass
particles wouldn't effect them...and apparantly they can digest the stuff
with no problems...
