In fact, to take it a step farther, I think that nothing Clinton and Lewinsky did
together
was, in itself, as degrading and damaging as what Ken Starr put Lewinsky through
before the American public and the world. Clinton himself has never said one bad word
about her and, IMO, in refusing to answer explicit sexual questions, was gentlemanly.
Jay Leno has been far more damaging to Monica than Clinton has.
Almost all these Washington types have played around with party girls, secretaries,
colleagues, and who-knows who or what else--in spite of being self-righteously and
correctly married. Most of these women really ARE "asking for it," since they get who-
knows-what social and financial perks and prestige out of mingling intimately with
power. It is all well and good to characterize Clinton as a predatory satyr sine qua
non-
-but then you would have to characterize 90% of the folks in Washington--and in
politics--in much the same way. There really are women who are turned on by men
with power--no matter what they look like, how old they are, or who they're married
to.
Personally, it looks to me like being President is a pretty demanding job. And I would
think the person doing it wouldn't have much time to pursue personal relationships.
