The group will be brought in to seek out the Ark of the Covenent, early gospels, the real Stone of Destiny or even the mummified head of Christ under Rosslyn Chapel in Midlothian, the ancient home of the Knights Templar. After years of speculation that the carvings left by the stonemasons who built the church give clues to the location of such incredible objects, the chapel trustees have decided to try to find the answer. Now the Rosslyn Chapel Trust is to ask a team of archeaologists to conduct a hi-tech survey of the church grounds to find the Biblical treasures or put an end to speculation about what lies under the crypt. Stuart Beattie, project manager of the trust, said moisture in the stonework had been a problem but added: "These worries have been alleviated to a certain degree, so we can now deal with the groundswell of opinion which favours investigation of the building." If they can get permission from the Government's heritage watchdog Historic Scotland, a modern Indiana Jones with his assistants will be able to sweep the floor, the walls and grounds of the chapel using sound scanners. Among the teams being considered for the task is the group which discovered the wreckage of King Charles treasure ship The Blessing or Burntisland in the Firth of Fourth. A similar scan was done several years ago by a businessman Niven Sinclair, a descendant of William St.Clair, who is credited with building the 15th century chapel. He said,"This is light years ahead of the sonar scanning I did. I believe the knowledge is down there and it will change history." Mr.Sinclair claims his scans showed two false floors below the crypt, 20 Knights Templar buried in armour around the north door and the Black Madonna, a figure revered by the Templars.
