-Caveat Lector- "ANONYMOUS AUTHOR" RESURFACES ============================= (CNNS, 03/19/99) -- In a surprising development, this news service has recently been contacted by the "Anonymous Author." (Longtime readers will recall this unusual thinker; see, e.g. CN 11.33, "The Anonymous Author Responds to Comments," at http://www.shout.net/~bigred/cn.html) The Anonymous Author was rattled by recent CNNS reports which strongly suggest that John Wilkes Booth was a member of the Knights of the Golden Circle, a Civil War-era secret society. "Not so!" angrily responded the errant knight of quixotic thought, in a memo sent to this news service. The Anonymous Author adheres to the theory that Mary Todd Lincoln, wife of Abraham Lincoln, is the true killer of America's most-loved, and most-hated, president. He believes that Booth was inadvertantly present at Ford's Theater on April 14, 1865, delivering narcotics to Mary Lincoln, and that Booth panicked when Mary Lincoln shot her husband dead. According to previous documents received from the Anonymous Author, John Wilkes Booth did not belong to the Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC), but rather to the Knights of the White Camelia, a lesser branch of KGC. In his communique received by this news service, the Anonymous Author opined that Jesse James, were he still alive, would be quite upset at the CNNS reports that Booth belonged to the Knights of the Golden Circle. The Anonymous Author has agreed to refute the apparent Booth/KGC link, but not immediately. The Anonymous Author is busy this month, but promises a clear rebuttal within about a month's time. In an interesting parallel, Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic finds himself today in a Lincoln-esque position. During the American Civil War, Abraham Lincoln fought to maintain the Union so as to better resist European imperialist designs on the American continent. So too does Milosevic fight for a united Yugoslavia, against the imperialist designs of France, Germany, Britain, and the United States. During the American Civil War, Russia was one of the only European powers which stood by Lincoln during the crisis.
