*** Church loses tax status for ad. WASHINGTON (AP) A federal court decision
stripping a church of its tax-exempt status for running anti-Clinton ads may
diminish political activity from the pulpit, activists on both sides of the
issue said Wednesday. Judge Paul Friedman's decision backed the IRS, which
had revoked the tax-exempt status of a New York church for running newspaper
advertisements against Bill Clinton in 1992. It was the first time a church
had lost its tax exemption for partisan political actions. The ads, which
ran in USA Today and The Washington Times, warned "Christian Beware" and
stated, "Bill Clinton is promoting policies that are in rebellion to God's
laws." The ad sought donations to help pay for the ads. See

*** Christians protest India attacks. GAUHATI (AP) Thousands of Christians
held protest marches in India's remote northeast against recent attacks on
the community, churches and schools allegedly by Hindu militants. Though
there have been no attacks on Christians in the northeast, Christian groups
count more than 100 attacks in Gujarat, Orissa and Madhya Pradesh states
since Christmas Day. The attacks included the burning death of an Australian
missionary and his two sons in eastern Orissa state. Christians comprise
nearly 2% of predominantly Hindu India's nearly one billion people. Nearly
5,000 Christians marched through the streets of five towns in Assam state,
