--- Begin Message --- -Caveat Lector- Nominated for the "bonehead of the century" award, President Dubya "Duh" Bush:

In a nutshell, here's a short list of Bush's political plunders SO FAR in 2003:

      (1) Antagonizing MINORITIES by personally leading a battle in the Supreme Court to begin eliminating Affirmative Action programs (with both Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell dissenting);

      (2) Antagonizing WOMEN by being more candid about his desire to reverse Roe v Wade through his next appointees to the Supreme court;

      (3) Antagonizing GAYS by choosing as the head of federal AIDS programs a person quoted as calling AIDS the "gay plague" and saying "Jesus Christ can cure homosexuals" (who luckily resigned at the last minute);

      (4) Antagonizing the increasingly out-of-work WORKING CLASS by
            (a) delaying approval of extended unemployment benefits for WEEKS during the Christmas and New Year's holidays (Republicans opposing the measure as "too costly"), only authorizing the measure after unceasing media attention, and
            (b) pushing another "economic plan" centered on eliminating the tax on stock-market dividend income and offering a new tax cut, both which will profit only the wealthiest 10% of  Americans -- in the long term, costing EVERYONE ELSE at least a trillion dollars and tripling the estimated national budget deficit post-Bush;

      (5) Antagonizing SENIOR CITIZENS by
            (a) deliberately, publicly ignoring the imminent collapse of the Social Security system while at the same time casually plundering its reserves, and
            (b) proposing a prescription medicine bill for Medicare recipients which would put seniors at the mercy of HMOs who are already either overcharging or abandoning them;

      (6) Antagonizing national and global CORPORATE INTERESTS through ill-considered actions (such as the push toward war with Iraq) that have led to near-collapse of the stock market, the spiralling devaluation of the dollar, a doubling of oil prices (imagine having to pay $4 a gallon for gas), and will most likely push the US economy over the edge into a full-blown Depression, lasting for decades ...

      ... And all that without even considering the general public's increasing outrage at the Bush Administration's attacks on our hallowed civil liberties, or its growing doubts (the President's approval ratings now fallen to 45% or less) about the TRUE  motives for Bush's unilateral military massing against Iraq --in spite of widespread opposition by our European allies, contesting or simply disregarding the actual verdict of UN inspectors, and worse, having suddenly lost all interest in Osama bin Laden or Al Qaeda, now that the projected oil pipeline is being built in Afghanistan-- and a similar dispatching of US military forces to Colombia, and soon Venezuela, where US oil interests are at stake ... while the same Administration downplays the very real threat to America posed by a nuclear North Korea ruled by a madman ...

But take heart: We're only 24 days into 2003, and we can look forward to almost two more years of the kind of leadership George W. Bush has demonstrated so far.
