-Caveat Lector- In a Network news report today, a NASA official spokesman said that "independent investigators outside of the Federal Government would participate in the investigation of the Columbia shuttle disaster. The announcement said this was "standard procedure" to have independent investigators participate.
Since this is "standard procedure", it raises the question (again) as to why independent investigators were glaringly not allowed to participate in the following official government investigations: 1. Waco (the fire and the deaths of the Davidians) 2. Oklahoma City (bombing of the Murrah Building) 3. TWA Flight 800 (explosion in mid-air and crash) 4. 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the the Pentagon. In the case of the World Trade Center, professional associations of Architects and Structural Engineers have openly complained that their people were not allowed to participate in the investigation. Independent engineers were not allowed to inspect the remains of the steel girders to determine where and why they failed in the collapse of the towers. The girders were cut up, trucked away and melted down or otherwise disposed of. An announcement several hours after today's shuttle crash, said that FEMA was being brought in to the investigation and collection of wreckage.
