Congress will adjourn sometime between November 7 and November 21, then will
be in recess until January. While on recess, new co-sponsors cannot be
added to HR 1258, our bill to close the SOA!. It is important that the
momentum created by SOA Watch's September 23rd Lobby Day is not prematurely
halted. So, please call your representative in the House of Representatives
and tell them why you, their constituent, want them to co-sponsor HR 1258,
sponsored by Jim McGovern (D-MA).

U.S.-trained ex-soldiers form core of Zetas

The Gulf Cartel boasts a rare weapon in the high stakes war for
drug-trafficking supremacy: U.S.- trained soldiers. The Zetas, hired
assassins for the Gulf Cartel, feature 31 ex-soldiers once part of an elite
division of the Mexican army the Special Air Mobile Force Group. At least
one-third of this battalions deserters was trained at the School of the
Americas in Fort Benning, Ga., according to documents from the Mexican
secretary of defense.

vigil is shaping up to be a milestone in the campaign to close the SOA.

Starhawk; activists from Argentina, Colombia, Guatemala, Venezuela; and many
others. On Sunday, November 23, 2003, many will cross onto the military
base and put their bodies on the line in a nonviolent direct action to close
the SOA!
