Belarus considers documents on national security guarantees Minsk. (Interfax-West) - Belarus has worked out a set of documents to guarantee national security in defense. "Their approval will specify the role and place of every government body in the general system of guaranteeing national security," Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko told a Friday session of the National Security Council. "Belarus is the first republic in the former Soviet Union to carry out such a large-scale and pressing task independently," he said adding that these documents would prepare the country for defending the state in extraordinary times, if such times were to arise. "It is a question of defending our Fatherland and we don't intend to engage in saber-rattling or intimidating anyone," he added. Lukashenko said that an analysis of the current international situation indicates that "unfortunately, the world is returning to a state in which war and pressure are becoming real foreign policy instruments." International law and international institutions "cannot fully guarantee the protection of the sovereignty or territorial integrity of one state or another," he said. "There is an obvious determination by the leaders of some countries for hegemony, monopoly domination and a new world order," Lukashenko noted. "The United States is openly claiming special rights to use armed force against nations that dare to pursue an independent domestic and foreign policy not controlled by it. Moreover, it insists that the United States and its servicemen do not bear any responsibility for that," he said adding that "many international organizations agree with this opinion."
