The new government of BC which took office in 2001 calls itself "Liberal" but gives all indication of being a U-S-A made "Libertarian-Fascist" government. The MHR Regimen is unprecedented in Canada and works effectively as our first gestapo, threatening the lives of the political foes of the State. We seem to be under U-S-A occupation. That is what we see through "The Fog of War". Why is Libertarianism, fascism? Because it values a human life only to the extent of its value in the marketplace, value which only the Libertarian in his infinite wisdom can define. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights says "No one shall be required to perform forced or compulsory labour" (Section 8-3-a). Here are three reasons why this is sound law in the context of the "MHR Regimen" with its forced preemployment -> employment programs. (1) It is not sustainable without dire consequences for non-compliance. Thus the MHR Regimen threatens harm to health and lives through severence of benefits which means homelessness. That is why it is criminal, ie a crime against humanity. According to Dukelow and Nuse in The Dictionary of Canadian Law, if such a consequence against an innocent person carries with it a significant likelihood of death, that constitutes threatened murder. Homeless living is unhealthy and carries with it a significant likelihood of death. Without this murderous threat, the MHR Regimen would collapse. (2) Nothing limits the type of work which can be forced on people. Most people make decisions regarding the jobs they will take based on the consequences for their "well-being" (eg from the Preamble to the Canada Health Act). They deem a job to be beyond their capability if it would have adverse consequences for well-being of themselves and their families. They may factor in values which have to do with mores and life-style, realizing that denying such considerations could have adverse effects on health and lives at some point. A dramatic example is found in the current movie, "The Fog of War". McNamarra says the job of Defense Secretary was so stressful to him and his family that it caused ulcers in his wife and daughter and the ulcers led to his wife's death. Free people factor in such considerations; forced labour cannot do so. Another dramatic example might be having the MHR Regimen force a vegetarian Buddhist to take training and employment in a restaurant where he will have to slaughter live animals. MHR's forced labour regimen forces the "well-being" definitions of the state on the worker and that includes the broad slate of attitudes and opinions inculcated in pre-employment training. In other words it is state indoctrination. (3) It is the perfect mechanism for destruction of trade unionism which the democracies of the world regard as a worker's right. Make no mistake about it. This is not just an inhibitor against the labour movement. It has the power to completely destroy the labor movement. Imagine the ABC Cooky Factory in BC with 100 workers who are planning to unionize. To thwart this, the owners just call up MHR and ask for 100 forced preemployment -> employment trainees who will replace them ... at minimum wage of course. The MHR Regimen is an instrument for union busting as the state becomes a personnel agency dominating over all other personnel decision-making powers in society. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Labor-L et al may think of other reasons why forced labour is bad for society. In general the expression "administrative fascism" applies well to the MHR Regimen though the word "fascism" is often over-used. For now odds are on your NDP winning Election 2005. Please tell us what you will do about the forced labour aspect of the MHR Regimen as you have given few details to date. There is nothing wrong with having 10,000 jobs earmarked for welfare recipients of course: as long as they are FREE choices as jobs are for other people. Can the NDP even increase the number of such FREELY chosen jobs for employable unemployed people? Or could it be that the 10,000 jobs were created only as forced labour positions and for the purpose of destroying the trade unions, the freedom of labour and the imposition of administrative fascism without which the MHR Regimen would vanish along with its jobs?
