‘Big-Time’ Dick Cheney Faces Criminal Indictments; Other Illegal Actions Raise Warning Flags at White House

 

Vice President Dick Cheney faces criminal indictments for illegal activities while CEO of energy giant Halliburton and also illegally intervened to secure a $7 billion no-bid contract for his former employer after his election to office, an analysis by the White House counsel’s office concludes.

 

Official said to steer Iraq work to friends

 

A senior Defense Department official conducted unauthorized investigations of reconstruction efforts in Iraq and used their results to push for lucrative contracts for friends and their business clients, according to documents and current and former Pentagon officials.

In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, the United States Navy awarded contracts valued at some $66 million to enhance security at its bases on the West Coast and in Hawaii. But Pentagon officials would soon come to regret their choice of company to receive the lucrative deal. The contracts went to a company, Surgical Shooting Inc., run by former Marine Sgt. Gary Lakis, who cited his special operations combat experience from Panama to Somalia and wore a chest-full of medals.

It makes little difference to the people of Iraq. After 30 years of Western-sponsored domestic tyranny, they must now suffer the brutal depredations of foreign occupation. As the popular Iraqi saying goes, "the student is gone; the master has come."

Man accused of anti-terror security scam pleads guilty

 

Ross Allen Rojek, 37, the Sacramento man accused of bilking investors out of more than $1.2 million for a phony facial identification system billed as a way to protect against terror attacks, pleaded guilty Friday to wire fraud and securities fraud charges. Rojek, prosecutors say, admitted to designing and taking part in the scheme to solicit investments in the purported technology company, which operated under the names Face Information Technology and Sentry Biometrics, from March 2002 through April 2004. No facial recognition program existed, and the cash raised went for other purposes, according to the government's account of Rojek's plea.
