-Caveat Lector- 5 Charged in Texas Shooting Plot WIMBERLEY, Texas (AP) -- Five junior high school students have been charged with conspiring to kill students and teachers in an alleged plot similar to the Colorado rampage, authorities said. The boys, all age 14, were taken into custody Friday and were being held on juvenile charges of conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit arson and conspiracy to manufacture explosives, said sheriff's Sgt. Allen Bridges. ``The investigation determined that the group had started earlier this year to plan the assault on the school,'' he said. ``Further evidence showed that they had targeted fellow students and teachers they were going to kill.'' Officials believe the boys had been planning since January to carry out an assault at Danforth Junior High School in Wimberley, a 450-student school about 40 miles northeast of San Antonio. ``We do have evidence they had a relatively detailed plan,'' said David Simmons, superintendent of the Wimberley School District. Authorities said a school staff member and several students notified them early Friday of the alleged plot. They apparently overheard the students on several occasions discussing their plan. Simmons said concerns about school violence in the wake of the Littleton, Colo., shootings may have prompted acquaintances of the teens to take the alleged threats more seriously. Officials would not say what, if anything, they discovered during searches of the boys' homes. Dozens of students around the country have been suspended and arrested since the Columbine High School shootings for making what were regarded as threats to carry out copycat attacks. Schools have been evacuated, locked down and closed as a result of the incidents, which have taken place in big cities and small towns alike since the attack in Colorado on Tuesday.
