-Caveat Lector- http://edition.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/africa/09/01/equatorial.thatcher/   Ex-PM Thatcher posts bail for son Wednesday, September 1, 2004 Posted: 1228 GMT (2028 HKT)   LONDON, England -- Former British Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher has posted bail for her son Sir Mark, who is accused of helping to fund an alleged coup plot in oil-rich Equatorial Guinea.   Lord Bell, Lady Thatcher's spokesman, declined to confirm or deny the report, which first appeared in The Times newspaper.   But a source close to the former prime minister confirmed to the UK's Press Association and The Associated Press that she had provided the bail money.   Mark Thatcher was under house arrest at his residence in Cape Town, South Africa, pending the posting of a bond set at 2 million rand ($300,000).   Equatorial Guinea has said wants to question him and his alleged co-conspirators on charges of plotting to overthrow President Teodoro Obiang.   Thatcher's lawyer says he is innocent of the plot, for which he is accused of helping to fund the purchase of a helicopter, and that he will cooperate with investigators.   Thatcher, 51, could face up to 15 years in jail if convicted.   Reports have put the former PM's son's wealth at around Ł60 million ($108m), but has claimed himself that the figure is "widely" off the mark.   The Times newspaper reported that the funds would be paid in 36 hours.   Thatcher is alleged to have backed plot ringleader, former SAS mercenary Simon Mann.   On Friday, a Zimbabwean magistrate convicted Mann on weapons charges but acquitted 66 others.
