Now more than ever, educators are looking to cultivate and preserve students' affection for Israel. We all agree that the most meaningful and lasting connection between Americans and Israelis is the result of direct and personal contact.
The School Program of the FIDF gives children a direct connection to Israel, and to the soldiers serving in the Israel Defense Forces. This program helps to establish a positive attitude towards Israel and its culture and helps build a bridge between American Jewry and Israel.
In April 2000, Friends of the IDF together with the last wounded soldier in Lebanon, a singer, and an accompanist from the IDF Cultural Corp toured Jewish schools around the U.S., performing an unforgettable one-hour program demonstrating the spiritual and military aspects of belonging to the IDF. The students had the experience of speaking directly with the soldiers, and learning about their daily lives and about Israel.
Each school adopted one of the Elite unites of the IDF located on the Israeli borders, and contributed funds towards purchasing a mobile club where the soldiers can relax or exercise while off-duty.
IMPACT is unique because everyone benefits. Students learn more about the IDF and its soldiers, as well as gain personal satisfaction knowing that they contributed to the wellbeing of IDF soldiers. In addition, schools will have access to information, speakers, videos and maps. IDF soldiers will also benefit from the knowledge that American students have come together to support them. In short, everyone wins.
