Quite a few of them.  One guy I knew said his father's farm was even better
off after the Depression.  They raised all of their own food, and he couldn't
afford to farm all of it, so he let people from nearby have gardens there.
For that privilege, they had to promise to help if he needed repairs to the
farm.  Since they couldn't find jobs, they had lots of time, and he managed
to sell just enough to buy a few
materials to make the repairs.  They didn't have much in the way of clothes,
etc., and shoes were always a problem, but everyone had enought to eat.
That wasn't the case everywhere.  Prudy
