-Caveat Lector- I read the cited article, and also went on to research professor Gold as well as theories of abiogenic petroleum origin. I am no expert, but am a science teacher for some years so have a better than passing understanding of the opposing views. In my opinion there is evidence that both methods are in play to create petroleum...abiogenic as well as biogenic (fossil fuel). I however don't see that having an endless supply of oil is necessarily the great cause for celebration that the author of the article feels it is. Having no strictures such as price, scarcity etc on fuel consumption, I feel quite sure we will continue to avoid putting any kind of control on our use, and will suffer the consequences in the form of global warming and all it has to offer mankind.
