| Nevada's largest newspaper endorses marijuana initiative Dear Kris Millegan: Nevada's largest newspaper — the Las Vegas Review-Journal — today endorsed the Marijuana Policy Project’s initiative to end marijuana prohibition in the state. You can read the paper’s endorsement here. -------------------- “What if your daughter was raped? What if your car was stolen? What if you were the victim of assault? Would you want police to use their full power to go after the perpetrator?” That’s how the new TV ad blanketing Nevada’s TV stations begins. The ad goes on to say: “Last year in Nevada, nearly 10,000 violent crimes went unsolved, while we spent millions and arrested thousands for the simple possession of marijuana. The choice is yours: Waste police resources enforcing marijuana laws that don’t work, or use them to go after those who would really hurt us?” The ad — released by MPP’s Nevada campaign committee today — urges Nevadans to vote for MPP’s initiative to end marijuana prohibition in the state on November 7. You can watch it for yourself here. With Election Day less than three weeks away, we really need your help. Would you please make a donation now so that we can afford to continue running this ad and others like it between now and Election Day? Every three cents you donate will literally mean that one Nevada resident will see one of our ads one time. So, for example, if you donate $150, then 5,000 Nevada residents will see our TV ad one time. Only 600,000 Nevadans will be voting this November, so $150 will actually make an impression on a non-trivial portion of the electorate. Please also take a minute to check out the second “webisode” that was released yesterday by the reality TV production company that's filming a feature-length documentary on MPP’s campaign in Nevada. The latest video clip features a behind-the-scenes view of our confrontation with the Clark County Board of Commissioners, where MPP’s Neal Levine objected to the board's use of public funds to oppose the initiative — and accused them of breaking the law in doing so. And click here to see some great video coverage of MPP confronting the White House drug czar in Las Vegas last week. With help from supporters like you, we have the best shot at ending marijuana prohibition in a state that anyone has ever had. Please help us win ... Sincerely, ![]()
Rob Kampia Executive Director Marijuana Policy Project Washington, D.C. P.S. As I've mentioned in previous alerts, a major philanthropist has committed to match the first $3.5 million that MPP can raise from the rest of the planet in 2006. This means that your donation today will be doubled. P.P.S. You can opt out of receiving fundraising mentions in the e-mail alerts I send you by visiting http://www.mpp.org/2006optoutpreference at your convenience. |
