The Democrats didn’t win anything; that’s hogwash. Bush was buried
beneath an avalanche of bad news which was timed to begin with the
release of Bob Woodward's book "State of Denial," followed by the
National Intelligence Estimate (N.I.E.), Lancet's Iraqi casualty report,
the Mark Foley page fiasco, and a barrage of ethics scandals, corruption
investigations, and intensified coverage of the war. It was a
carefully-coordinated coup intended to install "adults" (like Robert
Gates) in positions of power, change the policy in Iraq, and remove
Rumsfeld and Cheney from office.
It's quite illuminating to observe what lesson (if any) the Republican Party learned from the midterm "tsunami" of voter disapproval (significantly spearheaded by disgrunted Republican voters voting for the opposition party in protest). Rove, sensibly, blamed his Party's losses on the blatant selfishness displayed by corrupt GOP congressmen, but those corrupt GOP congressmen blamed the President for sabotaging the GOP's miniscule "majority" margin by dismissing Rumsfeld after instead of before the election -- thereby revealing that they're convinced their unethical or illegal behavior doesn't even matter, their ONLY concern being how cunningly stupid sheeple voters can be herded into voting booths to vote Republican!
