The element of the speech by Bush making a reference
to dealing with Syria and Iran suggests
military/covert actions as his response to those
countries, as opposed to the cover the Iraq Study
Group gave him with the call for direct talks. Now, I
certainly believe that back channel talks are going
on....we certainly had them with Hanoi before LBJ
initiated the bombing halt.
But, the raid on the Iranian consulate in Irbil
today. possibly to nab Iranian intell operatives /send
a signal/ step up the escalation or all the above and
more suggests something else. I personally think that
the United States has evolved a capability to wage
covert/special operations in the region since the
invasion similar to what was developed in Indochina
with MACV=SOG. This includes probably the training and
deploymwnt of unilateral assets like the Mujahadeen
El Khalq to be used again Iran and other types of
actions.
The MK used to be on the State Dept terrorist list
since they were for Saddam Hussein his equivalent Para
military army to be used against Iran. They quietly
disappeared from the front pagaes after 2003,
I am sure that these kinds of operations are being
mounted against Syria and Iran today and will escalate
after this speech yesterday.
