Israeli military intelligence chief predicts
Iran-Hizballah-Syria attack on Israel in summer
April 2, 2007, 12:56 PM (GMT+02:00)
In his briefing to the Israeli cabinet Sunday, April 1, Maj. Gen.
Amos Yadlin, AMAN chief, reported that Iran, Syria, Hizballah and
Hamas expect the United States to attack Iran in the summer and
they are preparing to retaliate by going to war with Israel. In
Yadlin’s view, a proliferation of players and the many
imponderables could ignite a conflict, which none of the parties
wants – as happened in the Six Day War of 1967.
DEBKAfile analysts note five salient points in Gen. Yadlin’s briefing:
1. His comments came one day after Iran’s chief of staff, Gen.
Hassan Fayrouz Abadi, urged the Arabs to hurry up and join Iran in
a defense treaty.

Iran and Saudi Arabia discuss mutual defense pact, Cairo weighs
restoring diplomatic relations with Tehran
April 1, 2007, 7:53 PM (GMT+02:00)
The two steps were set in motion at the Arab League summit last
week in Riyadh. Saturday, March 31, Iran’s chief of staff Gen. Hass
Fayrouz Abadi prodded Arab governments to hurry up and conclude the
defense pact because, he said, Israel is preparing a “suicidal”
assault on several Arab nations to save the Americans from pulling
its troops out of Iraq.
Read how this developed in DEBKAfile’s Exclusive Report below.

All 15 British sailors admit intrusion in Iranian waters
April 2, 2007, 10:34 AM (GMT+02:00)
Sunday night, Iranian Arabic TV put Royal Marine Capt Chris Air and
Lt Felix Carman on camera and showed them separately pointing to a
chart of the region along with their “confession” that they had

as unacceptable.

DEBKAfile:
A UK guarantee to stay permanently out of Iranian waters would
exclude Britain from a Western military strike on Iran
April 1, 2007, 7:50 PM (GMT+02:00)
This pledge in return for securing the release of 15 British
sailors would also remove Britain from its tasks in securing the
sea lanes to S. Iraq. DEBKAfile’s military sources: The statement
by a senior British defense official Sunday, April 1 is fraught
with broad implications: He said: “We are quite prepared to give
the Iranians a guarantee that we would never knowingly enter their
waters without their permission, now or in the future.”
