Many of you know about the Active Denial System, the cool new
microwave-for-humans "tool" being distributed to law enforcement
agencies across the country (already in use in the Middle East).
For a look below the tip of the iceberg, links provided here take
you to declassified documents (thanks to FOIA) re contracts for all
kinds of insane toys of similar intent. Examining these or just
skimming through the summaries brings to mind the September 2000
Project for the New American Century's "Rebuilding America's
Defenses" report (Wolfowitz, et al) advocating "bioweapons that
target specific human genotypes."

As our wealth flows to perpetual war for profit, it is wise to
recall the days when Dr. King led with a single voice, a single
message, and tremendous power. He did not advocate division into
pride groups; he advocated nonviolence and social justice for all,
period. When we are one, undivided by group missions of 10,000
causes, that power is still ours to wield. Walking with King today
is perhaps our only real hope for such power of unity. We know all
we need to know and do not need to gather to hear 100 activists
speak on 100 causes (i.e., what the government wants). We are ready
to stand and march as one force for the one cause that will address
all causes at once (i.e., what the government fears).
Human evolution is crippled by a terrible mindset. However, that
mindset -- of militarism, rampant consumption, and the superiority
of humankind -- is vastly vulnerable to its own exhaust. Its waste
products have produced conditions that threaten all life, and
therefore the potential to unite humans along advanced lines of
thought. But first, each individual must consider that self-
awareness and a certain degree of surrender to the greater message
is the foundation for group consciousness and change. Consensus is
not the goal; unity is. While we still have time, we must move from
comfortable small circles gathering together, each beating an off-
rhythm drum, to an undivided force with a single loud-and-clear
demand: Make "defense" defend Earth's diversity, taking business
out of exploitation and conflict so we move from killers to
caretakers.
Among students and in religious and nonreligious circles alike,
global warming is a far greater unifying cause than war. Global
warming is a much bigger bandwagon for ending conflict than the
many bandwagons of nonviolence combined. Conflicts are political
while climate change is personal. The global conflict mindset
divides us; the global warming mindset unites us. Whether for the
sake of Mother Nature, God's Creation, or survival, this challenge
creates an opportunity that will eventually appeal to all of us as
it arrives at our doorsteps. Make room for everyone to come join
hands in our common struggle.
