Subject: The Shot Not Seen Around the World

Sep 15, 2007 http://www.bagnewsnotes.com/ <my own comments inserted for clarification>

This [photograph] got lost in the shuffle about two weeks ago. Here's the caption:

"A police officer begins to lift a weapon toward protesters as the presidential limousine drives past behind him Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, in Bellevue, Wash. President Bush arrived Monday afternoon to headline a fundraiser for Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Wash., just hours after the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez."

<The protesters regarded as dangerous were chanting "Impeach Bush.">

President Bush, deeply unpopular in Washington state, arrived Monday afternoon to headline a fundraiser for Rep. Dave Reichert, R- Wash., just hours after the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez. The president, making one of his infrequent appearances in a state that has trended Democratic in recent years, planned a lightning quick visit to promote western Washington's only Republican congressman. With all the talk these days about "iconic" photography, even given the inflation of the term, I think this [photograph] fits the bill.

How can the Administration continue to get away with, well, everything it gets away with?

I found this newswire shot a revealing, if slightly cinematic symbolization of what underscores every gesture of Bush's government-by-paranoia.
