Saw the documentary on Berkeley in the 60s the other night.
The young people in that documentary were so vital, so committed to their ideas.
Is there any vital political organization on campuses today--or has religion and Jesus
become the answer to everything.
No wonder to me that there will be more and more random outbreaks of vicious random
violence if young people are pushed toward more and more conformity, and more and
more "religion," away from thinking through their ideas, organizing and planning
strategies that might actually be effective in working against ideologies they reject
and
for ideologies and notions of change they can positively commit to.
The saddest thing is that we can't figure out--beyond a sense of personal
embarassment and humiliation--what these two young men were striking out at.
That, apart from some byzantine mind control op directed toward gun control....and
perhaps toward making the whole population more wary of its young adults and their
potential for violence and thus putting all young people under tighter "control....or
perhaps to frighten young people themselves as to the "consequences" of "activism"--it
appears that they did what they did merely to prove their "superiority" over those who
"embarassed" them. Too weird. Too useless and futile.
In point of fact, young people today seem pretty quiet and "tame' compared to the
young people of earlier generatiions.
