SPECIAL OFFERS FOR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS

High School teachers who attend AFF's FREE Educator's workshop at the
University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus on Thursday May 13th 7:00 - 9:30
p.m. (see below) may receive for classroom use a free copy of AFF's video,
"After the Cult: Recovering Together."  In this 25-minute video, which comes
with a resource guide, ten ex-cult members of various ages and backgrounds
share their moving and dramatic personal stories.  They discuss recruitment,
how their experiences affected them, the kinds of problems they encountered
after leaving their groups, and how they are moving on with their lives now.

Continuing Education credits are available through the University of
Minnesota for AFF's Cult Education Week events.

Please contact us to hold a place for you if you are interested in attending
any of these events.

Some events may also interest your students, especially Bob Fellows free
public lecture on Wednesday evening (see below).

AFF (American Family Foundation), which was founded in 1979, has been the
leading professional organization concerned about cults and psychological
manipulation. AFF's 1999 annual conference will take place at the University
of Minnesota May 14th -16th.   A range of preconference events designed to
educate professionals, youth, and the public in the Minneapolis-St. Paul
area will precede it. Space is limited, so interested persons are strongly
advised to register in advance by sending your name, address, phone(s),
e-mail to AFF (see above), indicating which event you wish to attend. Events

Free  ?  Secrets of Magic
Illusionist and mentalist Bob Fellows will reveal how we can be fooled in
real life the way a magician fools us on stage.  He has been featured on
numerous national television shows with his "mind reading" demonstrations
and discussion of principles used.  He also recently re-created the most
famous escapes of Houdini for PBS and The Learning Channel.  Fellows is the
author of Easily Fooled: New Insights and Techniques for Resisting
Manipulation.  Wednesday, May 12th 7:30 P.M.; Earle Brown Center, University
of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus

Free  ?  Readings on the Cult Experience: A Literary Evening
On Thursday, May 13th at 7:00 p.m. at the Student Center of the University
of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus, writer and former group member Alex Stein
will host an evening during which contributors will read their essays or
poems.

On Thursday, May 13th from 7:00 - 9:30 p.m. AFF will offer four free
cult-education workshops for the professional groups listed above at the
Student Center of the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus. National
experts attending and/or presenting at AFF's annual conference will conduct
the workshops. Continuing education credits are available through the
University of Minnesota for a small fee.  Each workshop will present an
overview of the cult phenomenon, information on how cults and cult
involvement may affect people whom professionals help, and practical advice
on how to deal with the problems that arise.

and depth of understanding by examining social issues, scientific research,
and practical needs of all who are interested in this subject.  The
conference is part of a larger educational effort in the Minneapolis-St.
